Junkosha highlights sub-THz measurement challenges at European Microwave Week; showcases portfolio of high-frequency interconnect technologies

EuMW booth: D05

October 5th, 2026 - Junkosha, with expertise in advanced high-frequency interconnect technologies, have chosen European Microwave Week to demonstrate technologies supporting high-frequency applications, providing an opportunity to discuss the wider engineering challenges associated with signal integrity, characterization and next-generation wireless development. Active research is happening across the entire ecosystem to develop new hardware to support AI and data center applications, along with new developments in ultra-high frequencies and speeds for new 6G applications; Junkosha will use the event to highlight the company’s broader approach to developing cable and interconnect technologies for thorough design validation and testing of the wireless systems of both today and tomorrow.

Although 6G remains in its infancy, it is already clear that future wireless systems will make use of a broad range of spectrums. While mid-band and upper mid-band frequencies are expected to play an important role in wide area 6G deployments, research into mmWave and sub-THz technologies is also advancing for applications requiring extremely high data rates, wide bandwidths, and advanced sensing capabilities.

Research into these higher-frequency technologies has started to highlight the limitations of conventional test approaches. Small variations within the measurement path can have a greater impact on the accuracy of the results, making the characterization of emerging technologies more demanding. At mmWave/subTHz frequencies, parameters such as insertion loss, phase stability, and amplitude stability become increasingly important.

While the precise frequency ranges that will ultimately support 6G remain under discussion, research and development for next-generation wireless technologies is already exploring frequencies extending into the sub-THz range. Accurate characterization of components operating at these frequencies is therefore becoming an increasingly important engineering challenge in bridging theoretical design and real-world implementation.

As the industry continues to explore technologies operating at 100 GHz and beyond, the test and measurement infrastructure used to validate these components and systems must keep pace. At these frequencies, even the interconnect between test equipment and the device under test (DUT) can influence signal integrity, potentially affecting the accuracy and repeatability of the measurement itself.

“The deployment of 5G has transformed the landscape for test and measurement equipment. While the use of lower frequency bands is expected to be predominant in 6G, a broader range of technologies and frequency bands is also anticipated. As research progresses on mmWave and sub-THz technologies expected to be used in 6G, new challenges are emerging in testing and measurement. At these higher frequencies, measurements can become increasingly sensitive to factors such as cable flexure and mechanical stress,” explains Tomohiro Ogawa, Product Manager for Junkosha. “Characterizing mmWave and sub-THz components will require instrumentation and interconnects capable of supporting accurate S-parameter and modulated-signal measurements while minimizing measurement uncertainty. To address this, test setups must rely on robust, high-precision cabling and interconnects.”

Junkosha® Microwave/mmWave Coaxial Cable Assembly solutions include RF coax assemblies supporting frequencies up to 43.5, 50, 70, 130, 145 and 250 GHz and are engineered to provide consistent signal integrity, which is particularly vital for the demands of modern high-speed systems. In addition, they offer several benefits for measurements in high-frequency applications, including superior phase stability, high flexibility and low insertion loss. These characteristics are increasingly important for accurate, repeatable, and reliable measurements in demanding RF, mmWave, and sub-THz test environments.

Junkosha, will be exhibiting its comprehensive portfolio of cable solutions at European Microwave Week in London from October 6th – 8th, 2026, at Booth D05.
